Fleet One
This service uses a new maritime user terminal (UT) that operates over Inmarsat’s existing BGAN network.
You can now be connected to the internet and on phone, as though you are at home.
You can connect your smart phones and tablets via an optional WiFi router to access apps, and can keep up with the news and sports results whilst you are away.
It will also provide vital help assisting with route planning and navigation through weather and chart updates.
What’s more it provides peace of mind knowing you can connect to land anytime.
The service offers both voice and IP data connectivity and is distributed via the existing Fleet Broadband distribution model.
The terminal has been designed for maritime conditions, with ingress protection and compact dimensions for both above- and below-decks equipment.
Both wired and wireless connectivity are supported for user devices, allowing laptops, smartphones, tablets and other WiFi-enabled devices to be used.
IP data connectivity is offered at up to 100 kbps and voice connections are of landline quality. Users can set up voice and data connections at the same time.
Traffic from Fleet One terminals is delivered via the BGAN network to the PSTN (voice calls) or to the internet (IP data). Direct routing of data traffic to specific data processing networks (e.g. for vessel monitoring, AIS, or telemetry applications) may be offered as a future enhancement.
Fleet One is a global service, however, the specific Fleet One tariff is only available in selected geographies.
The Fleet One data service offers a throughput of up to 100 kbps at elevation angles of 20° or greater. Below 20° elevation, the data service continues to operate, however, the throughput that can be achieved will depend on the local operating conditions and is likely to be less than 100 kbps.
The Fleet One service has been tested successfully with leading maritime applications.
Safety Services
Fleet One supports Inmarsat’s unique ‘505’ safety service , which in an emergency routes you directly to a MRCC.
This means that in one phone call you can alert the safety services of your position and nature of distress, by reassuringly speaking to the Search and Rescue Services knowing that assistance will be sent.
